Supporting you to deliver a Blood Pressure Service

Also known as the Hypertension Case-Finding Service, the Blood Pressure Service was commissioned as an Advanced Service in 2021. Hypertension is the top risk factor in cardiovascular disease and near the top of risks for all premature death and disability.

Timely diagnosis and treatment is the answer, but with an estimated 5.5 million people with undiagnosed hypertension in England, there is clearly more to be done. The NHS has an ambition of detecting 80% of the expected number of cases by 2029 (from a figure of around 60% now).01

The introduction of this service sees pharmacy as vital in achieving this ambition.

It calls on pharmacy to:

Find previously undiagnosed cases in people over 40, and refer to general practice to confirm diagnosis and begin treatment

Undertake ad hoc clinic and ambulatory blood pressure measurements, when requested by general practice

Promote healthy behaviours to patients

To support pharmacy owners in building a successful service, Teva and Pharmacy Complete® provide online materials

The materials available include a Practical Guide PDF and two videos – one on running the service and one on measuring blood pressure accurately.

With best-practice tips from pharmacies delivering the service, these resources cover the four keys to success:
